Reviews
A lovely environment for a market. Lots to choose from. It is very much a craft market, which allows for the perfect place to purchase gifts from the creator to buy something special and different. The price range was great, and stall holders were friendly and helpful. Plants, jewellery, dog products, and a little bit of vintage. Something for everyone. A beautiful space for the food area. Parking was also very good.
A Vintage and Boho Haven with an Exciting Upcoming Event
During my visit in May 2023, I had the pleasure of experiencing the vibrant atmosphere of Gilles at The Grounds. As a lover of vintage and boho themes, I was thrilled with the unique offerings and can't wait to attend the upcoming event on June 18th.
Gilles Street Market has been a beloved fashion and design marketplace in Adelaide since its establishment in 2008. Now located at the Old Brick Dairy within the historic Adelaide Showgrounds, Gilles at The Grounds continues to captivate visitors with its charming setting. The large indoor space boasts barn doors that open up to a grassed area, accompanied by live music, tantalising food vendors, and dedicated areas for children.
What sets Gilles at The Grounds apart is its unwavering support for emerging and established designers, as well as its commitment to fostering an ethical environment for pre-loved and vintage sellers. The market embraces the concepts of reusing, recycling, and re-loving, effectively minimising waste impact on our environment—an admirable initiative worth applauding.
One aspect I particularly noticed during my visit was the dog-friendly policy that Gilles at The Grounds upholds. While ensuring a welcoming environment for peoples furry friends, they have also taken measures to inform dog owners about the rules and expected behaviour, which is good to know as I'm generally not a dog person.
The market's selection of dates throughout the calendar year is thoughtfully planned to coincide with other events hosted at The Showgrounds. Although the market may not be held on the same weekend each month, they aim to trade once a month with selected additional dates to ensure a diverse and engaging experience for attendees.
As I eagerly await the upcoming event on June 18th, which promises a vintage and boho theme, I can attest that Gilles at The Grounds is a destination that caters to a wide range of interests. Whether you're a designer, collector, retailer, hobbyist, or simply a foodie, there is something special for everyone at this remarkable marketplace.
When navigating to Gilles at The Grounds, it's helpful to input "South Boulevard" into your GPS for accurate directions. Ample parking is available in Car Park 1 and Car Park 2 on Leader Street, with fees. I wish I had seen information earlier as I had a scenic walk of the grounds on the day with my mum.
During my visit, I didn't have the opportunity to explore having a stall, but I can assure you that the marketplace offers a diverse range of stall sizes to suit different needs. The stalls are designed with a back wall and usually separated by posts and undercover.
In summary, Gilles at The Grounds is an enchanting haven for vintage and boho enthusiasts. My visit in May left me eagerly anticipating the upcoming event on June 18th, where I expect to be immersed in a world of vintage treasures and bohemian delights. If you're seeking a vibrant marketplace that celebrates creativity and sustainability, don't miss the opportunity to explore the talents of local artisans and indulge in a delightful experience at Gilles at The Grounds.
Love to shop here & also at times have a stall here. Friendly, great vibes, so many stalls, food trucks & music and free entry. Best Adelaide market.
Nice vibes, and the food is good… but a lot of the stalls just sell the same items as each other. There’s only so many candles and earrings to buy.
Also, to the father that just watched his young kid urinate on a tree in the middle of the busy grass outdoor seating area on 2/7/23… You are disgusting and a bad parent. This does not effect my rating
Always so much fun, lots to offer! Baker Romeo stall is the best and you must pick up some Salted Caramel Sauce by Belle Torte at Christmas time
Damn I loved this market. Vintage clothes everywhere with choices for males too! I lobed the craft stalls most, got me some gorgeous wooden troll dangly earrings. So fetch.
We went on a lovely spring day and sat outside and had a lovely meal on some scattered cushions. Perfect morning.
Awesome markets. Great stalls with lots of clothes and gift options. Perfect spot for Xmas gifts
Try the boerewors spring rolls! So so yummy. 4 large spring rolls with chutney and they are absolutely delicious! 5 stars for this unique South African treat!
